Hello, I am new to this list. I have been searching for the family of my GGGGrandfather, James McAfee from Pitt,Co. NC.

In the 1790 Pitt Co. census he is listed as living with or next to an Arthur Flake. I believe they were from the Farmville area of Pitt co. Arthur is listed in the Beaufort Co. NC tax lists of 1755 and again in the Pitt Co. tax records of 1762/3.
They would, I believe, have been from the
Farmville area. The 1790 Pitt census lists Arthur Sr. and Arthur.

Mary Flake, along with James McAfee, is listed in the Ellison Deed book as selling land in 1798. One witness was William Flake.

Arthur Flake is listed in the following servay Pitt Co. as follows: 9 Nov 1761 | Granville Bk.6 pg.90 => Simon Prescott | 230 acres in Pitt County on the North side of Tarr river and (on) both sides of Marks Swamp, joining near the point of pocoson on the N side of the sd Swamp, Bennett Brittain, Arthur Flake, Adams ‘s Corner, and the side of the little pocoson | SCC: Robert Flake, William Prescott | Wits: Amos Atkinson, Richd Allen | PT-4344 | Plat reads “..(land) surveyed for Simon Prescott and John Prescott’.

My GGGg grandfather and children, all born in Pitt Co., moved to Washington Co. Georgia in 1827. I have never found mention of his wife.

His first son was named Arthur. I strongly suspect he married into the Flake family, but have no proof.

If any one has knowledge of the Flake family, circa 1700's from Pitt/Beaufort Co.,NC, I would appreciate hearing from them.

Thank you,
Sydney McAfee
