Speaking of "Alcy" Flake

I have found only one will of Samuel Flake in 1802. It is a poorly typed one in the NC Archives and in Anson Co. records. It clearly states his wife's name as Aley. And a deed from "Samuel Flake Senr. and Sarah his wife" is dated 3 march 1799. It is signed by Samuel Flake, and Aley X Flake, her mark I presume. So where does "Alcy" come from?
