Robert Flake b. ca 1621 probably in England

The following information was obtained from published records: 1> Hopkins, "IOW Co, VA, Deeds 1647-1719, Court Orders, ...", and 2> "Surry Co, VA, Deeds 1684-1733, Court Orders, ..."; 3> Boddie, "Historical Southern Families, VIII"; 4> Davis, "Surry Co, VA, Wills 1671-1750"

1> 10 Aug 1691 Robert Flake gave deposition aged 70 years (x). [Places birth about 1621.]

3> Robert Flake Sr wife Katherine had been previously married and had three daughters: (1) Joyce, m1. Francis England, 2. George Cripps, no issue of either; (2) Susannah m. Thomas Atkinson; (3) Mary was born in 1632, m1. John Burgess, m2. Richard Skinner, m3. John Collins. [Will of Richard Skinner in 1677 admrs. were Robert Flake and George Moore. This George Moore was also mentioned in connection with other Flake records, and in 1667 Thomas Moore gave land to Robert Flake for "love and good will". This terminology is usually taken to mean some kind of relationship exists between the parties. In my opinion, Robert's wife Katherine was either born with the surname Moore, or that was the surname of her first husband. Study is required on the Moore family.]
Robert Flake Jr married Margaret, daughter of Mathias Marriot, per Mathias will. Mathias was married to Alice Warren, daughter of Thomas. Alice Warren was born in 1645, per her 1677 deposition at age 32. Therefore, Margaret Mariott was born about 1660, if Alice Warren was age 15 at marriage. Robert Flake and Margaret Marriot's daughter Alice Flake was born about 1675, if Margaret Marriot married at age 15. Alice Flake could only have married William Gwaltney about 1690, if she was then aged 15, so any reports of their daughter Ann Gwaltney being born earlier than 1690 are in error. It follows that Ann Gwaltney did not marry Edward Boykin Sr, who was born in 1650 and was having children in 1670-80 period. Ann Gwaltney probably married Edward's son John Boykin. Will of William Gwaltney in 1728 mentioned grandson Edward Boykin, who must have been son of this marriage and born no earlier than 1705, and probably later.
