My GGG-Grandmother was Catharine Ann Flake, daughter of John Flake and Margaret Davis. Their children were John and Eliza. Margaret married again to Thomas McQuinnie (I think the spelling is wrong but my father says it is not. If you need my Right spelling I will relay it to you.) Catharine (1831-1909) was born in Ontario, Canada, but we don't know the exact location. Catharine married Peter G. Schram in Nissouri Twp., Oxford Co., Ontario, CA and they moved eventually to Yale, Michigan where they homesteaded land and raised 10 children. Catharine's sister, Liza Jane Flake (1835-1902,) stayed in Canada and married Morris O'Bryan (1828-1897). They lived near Simco, I think, but I'm not sure. AS to John we know nothing. But I would like to know more. There are many Hugh’s in our family. My father is one. But it seems to be a common name in Canada during that time. Father also collected the information that John Flake was Irish and a farmer. But I have found some of his antidotal information to be incorrect, however well intended. Also, Eliza's daughter Eliza may have named her first son after a Flake relative. His name was Herman Flake Ashton. I hope this helps.
