I welcome any clues discounting the 1701 birth of "our" Samuel Flake. My biggest clue is the 1798 grant from the State of NC of 100 acres to Samuel Flake (contiguous with his own property line). It is highly unlikely that he would have been 97 yrs. old at the time! I don't know when Samuel Jr. moved to South Carolina, but since Samuel Sr. was still alive and living in Anson Co., they would have so designated Samuel as Jr. if it had been he.
