Edward's mother's name was Catherine O'Connor (her siblings were Margaret (Costigan), Ellen and Luke)
Edward was the 3rd of 9 children born to Peter and Catherine - others were John, Ellen, Peter Henry, Luke, James, Katherine, Charles and Cornelius.
In the US Census 1860 Peter, Catherine John and Ellen are living in Fulton Co. NY near Broadalbin. In the 1865 Census Edward is living in Victory Mills NY (Schuylerville) Saratoga Co. In the 1875 NYS Census he is wording as a 'corder' in the textile mill - age 13. He homesteaded in North Dakota in 1885. His borther John moved to Albany NY, but the rest of the family moved to Schenectady, NY to work around 1892 to work in the new company Thomas Edison moved to Schenectday from NYC. Today that company is called General Electric.
The 1900 US census finds Edward in California - the census taker originally spelled the name Flanagan but crossed that out and replaced it with Flanigan. All of Edwards brothers, except Neil, spelled the name Flanigan.
