I have a John L. Flanigan near the beginning of my family tree. He was married three times and had numerous children. I have some good information so far, but have encountered other posts that make me wonder. Here is what I know about "my" John L. Flanigan, b. 5/12/1815 Pennsylvania, - d. 1/11/1887 Indiana:
l. Margaret Conner, m. 1840 (Children: Andrew 1841, Leonard 1843, Martha 1845, Rebecca 1947, Isabel 1850, Margaret 1853) Wife Margaret died in 1853.
2. Mary Mounts, m. before 1855 (Children: Sarah 1855, George 1856, Franklin 1858, Charles 1860, John M. 1862) Wife Mary died in 1865.
3. Malissa Dunn, m. 1869 (Children: Willie 1870, Hattie 1872, Albert 1874). Wife Malissa died in 1878.
I have seen posts by others citing a John L. Flanigan as their ancestor and claiming marriages to other individuals. "My" John L. Flanigan is the son of an Andrew Flanigan and his wife, Isabella Clark. I am reasonably sure that Andrew?s father?s name was David, but I have not verified this with any document.
I?m also wondering how likely it would be for John to remain unmarried for four years after Mary died, before marrying Malissa, what with all the children he had to raise?
