Thanks, Kellie. In the months since I posted that, I did learn that he was actually born in Indiana. The "born in Ireland" thing was family oral history, which is often mistaken. I have now traced back to his father, John L., his grandfather, Andrew and possibly a great-grandfather, David, born in Pennsylvania. I am now searching for documentation on David.
