Thanks Elaine. This is WAY more than the article in the library, so I'm guessing that article (which I still haven't found my copy of) was extracted from this family history for publication in a county history.
The reference to General Sumter seems to be new to my cousins, so that's a fresh avenue for us, and if the families moved west together, as many did, there may be clues in here as to the migration of our Flanigans from Franklin Cy, GA (the part that's now Stephens Cy) to Tallapoosa Cy, AL (the part that's now Elmore Cy).
I see the references to Carroll and Haralson (which was formed from Carroll) Cys, GA. Our William Flanigan was a fortunate drawer in one of the lotteries for some land in the Haralson part of Carroll, although we haven't found a record of his having lived there, nor of his selling the property. Gotta wonder if it ended up in the hands of one of the Stephenses.
It was kind of you to respond so quickly.
