As the Stephens family journal notes that he was the father of Lucy and that he fought in "that war," I have no doubt about his service. I also feel certain that the listing of "Polly Flanigan, widow of Revolutionary soldier," was William's widow. I may contact a genealogist at the DAR headquarters and see if they will accept the family journal as proof of his service. It was used as part of the proof for Joshua Stephens.
