As the Stephens family journal notes that he was the father of Lucy and that he fought in "that war," I have no doubt about his service. I also feel certain that the listing of "Polly Flanigan, widow of Revolutionary soldier," was William's widow. I may contact a genealogist at the DAR headquarters and see if they will accept the family journal as proof of his service. It was used as part of the proof for Joshua Stephens. Good luck in you research. I'll watch for any new posts from you. Hopefully I have given you new ideas and avenues to research.
