Wanda,
It would appear that you are from my husband's line of Flatts and I am wondering if you have any information on his particular branch of that family.
I am searching for information on a John Flatt that married a Catherine OWEN(S?). Apparently, they are listed as the parents of our Andrew Jackson Flatt's sister, Josephine (aka Joanna and "Josie") on her death records.
As I have said in other postings to this forum, at the time of A.J.'s death,(in the 1950's) his parents were THOUGHT to be John and Sarah. No other information was known. My husband remembers his family sitting around the table at the time of Andrew's death and discussing the names of his parents.Andrew's father fought in the Civil War (on the Union side--perhaps this caused some rift with a truly southern family????).
So, the father information remains constant (John). Now, I would like to explore Catherine (Owen) Flatt. I would like to know whom she married after John's death. Did she go by another name as well? Could she have been named Sarah Catherine? Or, was the name Sarah used because folks in the family had heard of I. C.'s wife, Sarah Brown?
LOTS of questions.
A.J. came to Misssouri sometime in 1870.He and his step-father didn't get along and he struck out on his own. He was only 17 years old at the time.He was born in June of 1853.
I know that he remained in contact with members of his family who were in Jackson Co. TN.He went periodically to visit with his cousin, Henry Parker Flatt and he corresponded with Jefferson Douglas Flatt. So, we can DEFINE his family group, just not the SPECIFIC branch (ie. WHICH John FLATT was his father?).I have looked diligently for a John Flatt who was married to a CATHERINE.No luck. His step-father is said to have been a FORCUM.But, I haven't been able to find any information on that either.
I also found an old photo (belonging to A.J.) that has written beneath it that it is of I.C. Flatt's wife and daughters. I don't know if it was I.C. Jr. or I.C. Sr., but am guessing that it was Jr. He would have been a cousin to A.J.
Any help would be appreciated. You may contact me privately, if you wish at the email associated with this posting.
