The name FLEET shows up on our family tree quite a few times as a given name. I started to wonder if at some point it was a surname. I am stuck on tracing my family back prior to 1850. This is the line. The name "Fleet" as a given name shows up in John's descendants quite a few times. This is all I know, and it's from John's side: Brothers: John Delancey Stanton, b1850 James Harvey Stanton, b??? Not sure where they were born. John's info lists three different states: Michigan, Illinois, Ohio (taken from census, obit, death record) I have no idea where or when James died, so I have not yet been able to find info on him. Extensive research of the STANTON families in the US/England have not brought about a connection to the two brothers above. The following given names appear often: Henry, Harvey, Fleet IT is thought - but not known for sure - that the mother of John and James was a DELANCEY. Follow-up has not shown this to be true as we simply are at an impass. So, we got to thinking - perhaps FLEET was a surname at one time. Any ideas? Mert malphonsine@yahoo.com
