Several years ago I was in Richmond at the Archives and looked for more evidence of the James/Lewis connection. At that time, the Essex Co. VA general index to wills (Reel #63) didn't list a will. In fact, it listed an "Administrator's Bond", which says he must not have left a will since that would have required an executor (?). I have copies of the appraisement and the accounts, and the orphans' accounts make it clear that James and his wife died at about the same time since the estate was charged for a "coffin for his Wife" and a "coffin for himself". The Church Wardens of South Farnham Parish were ordered to bind out James Flemister's children "according to law", so James did leave minor children. There don't seem to be many records for Farnham Parish surviving, according to "A Guide to Church Records in the Archives Branch, VA State Library & Archives", but that would be the place to look.
