Always referred to as a gristmill in family histories. The Fletchalls built them everywhere they settled.Gristmill in my definition is for milling grain.I found the stones for the gristmill in Missouri.Have never read or heard anything about finding stones in South Carolina--have never been there myself. They could very well be there "somewhere", perhaps even buried after this many years.
