MRS. WM. VAN NOSTRAND passed away Tuesday evening about a quarter past nine o'clock at the VAN NOSTRAND home in north Leon.MRS. VAN NOSTRAND had been feeling badly for only a day or so and was not thought to be in a dangerous condition.Just a short time before her death, she grew suddenly worse and died in a few minutes after the arrival of a physician.The bereaved ones have the deep and sincere sympathy of our people.

ELIZABETH WHEELER was born in Illinois, December 26, l833 and departed this life at her home in Leon, November 27, l9l7 at the age of 83 years, ll months and l day.She moved with her father to Iowa in l839.She was united in marriage to WM. VAN NOSTRAND at Fairfield, Iowa, April 9, l854.Eight children were born to this union, three of whom preceded their mother in death.MRS. M.J. LILLARD, of Kansas City; H.L., of Cheyenne, Wyo.; MRS. J.J. CASTER, of Topeka, Kan.; MRS. W.F. FLETCHER and C.L. of Leon, Iowa, with the aged husband are left to mourn her departure.Besides her husband and children she has one sister, MRS. MARY SHOULTZ, of Farragut, Iowa, and seventeen grandchildren.
Shortly after her marriage they moved to a farm near Leon where they resided continuously until l893 when they moved to Leon, Iowa where they have lived ever since.
When a young woman she was converted and united with the Baptist Church.After her marriage, she with her husband, placed their membership in the Leon Christian Church of which she was a member at the time of her death.She was a faithful attendant at church and loved the word of the Lord, but for several years on account of her feeble condition, she was unable to attend church services, but was always interested in them and asked about everything relating to the church.Only a few days ago she expressed a desire to attend church.In her death the husband has lost a faithful wife and companion, the children a kind and indulgent mother.
Funeral services were held at the home Friday morning at l0 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Edwin Hignett, Pastor of the Leon Christian Church.Interment was in the Leon Cemetery.
