Hi Folks,

Senator Jacob "Job" Fletcher is a long distant great grandfather of mine on my dad's, Vernon Elswick's, Elswick - Fletcher side of the family. I'm not sure if he is 3rd, or 4th or even a 5th generation Great Grandfather as there is a long line of them in genealogy history. Elizabeth Fletcher and John Riley Elswick were my great grandparents, my dad's grand parents. They are at rest in the Olympia, WA area with John Riley in an Old Settlers Cemetery and Elizabeth in one of the larger cemetery's in the area. My grandfather was Clifford Elswick of Divernon, IL. I'm interested in learning more about the Fletcher connection. My dad's thoughts on how Springfield, IL became the state capital are more realistic than what is published online because they were handed down over the years from family to family. It had to do with the family farming in the Divernon and surrounding area, hardships of travel, keeping the capital within traveling distance of the family farms and travel for the men of the Long Nine including Senator Job Fletcher.
1800's.
