I love the picture of Levi in the book. He and my grandfather, Guy Gaylord, could pass for twins. Same great smile. If you can scan and email me the original photo of Levi, I would most appreciate it. Other than the info in the book re Levi, I did find him on 3 censuses, all Mohican, Ashland, Ohio.
- In 1850, he is listed with first wife Anna Newman (32), and children Delila (7), Nathaniel (5), Daniel (4), Charlott (2). Levi was age 33, occupation farmer, value of real estate owned $6500. Anna was also the mother of my great-grandfather, Elias Gaylord, but he wasn't born until 1851.
- In 1860, Levi is listed with second wife, Eliza (age 30, born Ohio), children Delila, Nathaniel, Dan, Charlott, plus Elias (age 8), Levi (2) and Samuel (10 months). Value of real estate $5900, personal estate $1200.
- In 1870, Levi is listed with wife Eliza, children Elias, Samuel, Ida, Charlott, Wilson, Isak, Eliza, Euset, all born in Ohio. The rest is too faint to read.
- A family story about Elias Gaylord Flickinger. According to my uncle, his grandfather (Elias) wanted a grandson named after him and whichever of his children would do that, Elias would pay him $100. My grandfather (Guy Gaylord) named his 4th son Elias Gaylord, but never received the $100. We always laugh about that, because it sounds exactly like something my grandfather would do, like father, like son, I guess. Anyway, the 2nd Elias Gaylord goes by E. G.
