Also, that he was the ships carpenter during the Revolutionary War. See items in his estate inventory:

1 ship Carpenter Mall

He was literate and could sign his name. Also in his inventory:
1 Lot of Books
2 volumes Morses Geography
1 Lot of plotting instruments
