Frances Marion Nixon was born in Scotland in 1770. He came to this country with his parents about the time that the American Revolution started. His father lost his life in the Revolution. His mother died about the same time, leaving Frances Marion and another son and daughter. They became separated and never saw one another again. Frances Marion married an English girl born in London, Catherine Elliot on March 1, 1798. They settled in Missouri and raised a large family. He was a soldier in the war of 1812 and was in a number of Indian wars. “He has informed me that Frances Nixon was an exceedingly patriotic man.”
Athens Post, June 1881, Capt. R.A. McClellan. The family later moved to Arkansas with their family at which place he died at the age of 105. Frances Marion was small, weighing about 120 pounds. He was a swift graceful runner.
He could run five miles with ease. He was a frontiersman, hunter and farmer.
Andrew Jackson Nixon, the son of Frances Marion Nixon, was born in Missouri on July 4, 1813. On December 23, 1832, Andrew Jackson married Miss Lurana Wooten in Morgan County, Missouri. Lurana was born August 25, 1815. They lived in Missouri until their second child was born in 1835, at which time they moved to Arkansas, Franklin County. They lived there until 1856. A.J. and his two brothers loaded their families into ox wagons and headed for the gold fields of California. They took about 300 head of cattle and horses. A.J., however, ended up in Texas. A.J. Nixon had 14 children, one of which was James Nixon. James married Mary Hatfield and they had 10 children, one of which was America Nixon. America Nixon married George L. Flora and they had nine children, being Ola (Olay),
Lillian, Chauncey (Uncle Lee), Anna (Aunty), Emma, George E., Nettie, Ruben (Red) and William (Uncle Willie). My Grandfather was George E. Flora. I have additional information and would be very interested in finding out information about Dela Fleuri.
