John was among earliest settlers in what was to become Liberty Township, Montgomery County, Kansas, then Osage Indian Ceded Lands in 1867/8, Daughter Harriette Amanda (Flora) GRAY "..first white child born in Montgomery Co." wrote Wm. G Cutler in his 1883 published History of Kansas. She was also the Golden Rule Foundation's "American Mother of 1937", & wife of Union Pacific Railroad's vice-chairman Carl Raymond GRAY (1867AR-1939DC)
