Hi Chris,
Yes this helps. I see that you are from the "Georgia Line" as I call it. I am from Obed Flourance the brother of your John. Their father was William Flourance Sr. who was born down the Northern Neck of Virginia we figure about 1705 or 1706. John and Elizabeth ?????(maiden name not proven)was in Essex or Lancaster when William Sr. was born. The reason for the earlier birth date for William is that we have a Family Bible now proving William Jr. was born to William Sr. and Letty Whitescarver on Jan.7,1736 in Prince William Co. Va.
Now back to John Flourance and wife Elizabeth---There was an Elizabeth Wyatt who lived in Prince William Co. but she is not our Elizabeth. She married Joseph Oates and had a family. After John became successful in his trade as a Tailor he lived all over the Northern neck of Virginia. He made clothing for many of the wealthy Virginians and traveled in those circles. It is my feeling that he met Elizabeth somewhere in those circles of people. I can tell you this much now that I have discovered ties to the Carter's, Lee's, Washington's, and Corbin Families that have to come through her side of the Family. I am working very hard trying to pull all this together soon.
John and Elizabeth moved to Prince William County with a land grant in 1725. John died in 1752, and Elizabeth being old stayed with her children.
Their son Joseph Flourance worked for Landon Carter as an overseer. We connect Joseph to George Washington, Landon Carter, Henry Washington, and Henry Lee. Joseph's father John also has the same ties.
Our Wm Flourance Sr. left Prince William Co.Va. and went to Culpeper Co. Va. where he and Letty lived on the Whitescarver property. They then migrated to North Carolina for a while, and then on to Georgia. They settled in Lincoln Co. first. Somewhere in the movings Letty died, but no one knows exactly where. William met and married in Columbia Co. Ga. to Aquilla Phelps. She went by Elizabeth Phelps. She was very young, and in fact was still alive with one daughter in 1850 census in Augusta Georgia. William died in Appling Ga. in 1799 and was buried in the Phelps Family cemetery.
More later----Jim
