In re the parentage of Sergeant Charles Floyd, we also have this:In his celebrated work, "Undaunted Courage," 1996, Stephen Ambrose says of the forming of the Lewis and Clark expedition: "Seven of the men the captains picked had previously been conditionally approved by Clark, two byLewis. They made Charles Floyd and Nathaniel Pryor sergeants. Floyd was the son of Captain Charles Floyd, who had soldiered with George Rogers Clark. When these nine men were sworn into the army, in solemn ceremony, in the presence of General Clark, the Corps of Discovery was born." p. 118, my edition is the first, printed in 1996. He footnotes Appleman, "Lewis and Clark," p. 57.
