David [Brozo] - Thanks for taking the trouble to reply. It's a long shot as to whether our Brietzke relative were linked. Many emmigrants from Prussia travelled via Hamburg to USA - they often spent some time there before making enough money for the voyage. Do you have any more details of exactly where the parents of Charles and August lived.

I'd like to keep a note of these Breitzke's, in case I can find a link later. It's not that common a name. But the difficulty for tracing Prussian connections is that the Pommerania area was 'ethnically cleansed' of German families at the end of the war in 1945. So many records were destroyed, too during the 1930s-40s.
