Michael, I'm not sure if we have a connection but some names and places are the same so I will give it a try. My Greazt grandfather was Jeremiah Clement (or maybe Charles) Fogarty born in 1844 in Carrick on Suir, Co. Tipp. He came with his Mother and Grandmother to US during the Civil War. His Father was J.C., assumed to be same name as son, who didn't show on ship register as coming so I presumed he died prior to this. Could he be your Jeremiah who stayed on the family farm? My ggrandfather's mother was Catherine Cummings born in 1823 possibly near Cashel. I have been to Carrick on Suir but was unsuccessful in finding out information.
The son Jeremiah Clement (my Ggrandfather) married Mary Elizabeth Corcoran whose family had been living in Penn. prior to coming to MN where the Fogartys were. I don't know if the Fogartys were also living in Penn. on their way to MN. The story is that Archbishop Ireland who came to MN was from Tipp. and wrote back to his people to come directly to MN and not to stop anywhere along the way. Archibishop was a good friend of the Fogartys here in MN and said Mass in their home over the General Store in Buffalo, MN. There is another Fogarty family not far from there in MN but we don't seem to be related.
If any of this works please let me know. g
Good luck in your search, Carol Welle
