Irene Fogarty, 75, of North Providence, died Sunday, August 29 at home. She was the wife of Francis J. Fogarty.
Born in Brighton, Mass., she was a daughter of the late Cornelius and Honora (Healy) Driscoll. She lived in North Providence for 39 years.
Mrs. Fogarty was a registered nurse at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital in North Providence until she retired in 1983. Previously she was employed at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Brighton, Mass., and in the intensive care unit of the former Lying-In Hospital, now Women and Infants Hospital in Providence.
She was a 1950 graduate of St. Vincent's Hospital School of Nursing in Worcester.
Mrs. Fogarty volunteered for the American Red Cross and the United Way, and was a Sunday school teacher.
An avid reader and gardener, she especially enjoyed her role as a mother and grandmother.
Besides her husband, she leaves three sons, Joseph F. Fogarty of Warwick, Stephen M. Fogarty of Houston, Texas, and Timothy P. Fogarty of North Providence; two daughters, Jean M. Fogarty of Taunton, Mas., and Linda A. Fogarty of North Providence; one sister, Mary McLaughlin of Mansfield, Mass.; and three granddaughters, Meghan Fogarty of North Providence, and Emily and Alice Fogarty, both of Smithfield. She was a sister of the late Cornelius and Joseph Driscoll.
Her funeral service was held on Friday, September 3 in Elliot M. Robbins Chapel, North Providence, with Ronald Tanguay officiating.
The pallbearers were Tom Hunt, Bill DeChristofaro, Gerry McLaughiln, Jamodi Robinson, Dino Driscoll, and Lawrence Robinson. Burial was in Swan Point Cemetery, Providence."
