If you visit the site you can see the actual record which gives a bit of added information. Edward is reported to be a fisherman and of Irish descent as are all the children. However Johanna is listed as French and speaks both French and English.

Nova Scotia Vital Stats can be found online at
Its free and searchable. You may need to download a viewer program that is free onsite to see the actual record.

The Death Certificates of both Edward and Johanna are there as follows

Edward Fogarty Reg Year 1941, Book 188, page 335
Died March 11, 1941 in Hazel Hill of pneumonia

Johanna Fogarty Reg Year 1944, book 188, page 842

The 1881 Canadian Census is available free at the website below
In 1881 Edward is living with his parents Michel and Ann in Crow Harbour, Guysborough Co., District 8-B, page 17. Note that here Ann is listed as born in Newfoundland.

Ann’s death certificate is also online on the NS Vital Stat site and confirms that she was born in Newfoundland. This is an older style death certificate and doesn’t give as much information as the newer ones.

Ann Fogarty died Hazel Hill Guysborough County Reg Year 1909, Book 7, page 41 #258
Died December 1, 1909 age 84 years 7 months, 16 days ,widow
Born St. Johns Newfoundland

The 1891 Canada Census is available free at:

The 1891 Canada Census asks for the birthplace of the persons parents and Michael Fogarty reports both his father as being born in Ireland and his mother in Newfoundland. Ann states both her parents were born in Ireland.

This information should give you a good start in compiling a family history. The links I’ve included are all free sites and you should be able to find much more information to add to what is here.
