If you visit the site you can see the actual record which gives a bit of added information. Edward is reported to be a fisherman and of Irish descent as are all the children. However Johanna is listed as French and speaks both French and English.

Occupation : fireman; type of industry: stationery engines (Census says fisherman-the old definition of “fireman” was basically the person who “fired” the engines. Probably he was an engineer on the fishing boats )

Johanna died Aug 15, 1944 in Canso
Death certificate lists her birthdate as Jan 6 1875 and birthplace as Charles Cove
Her father is listed as Jeramiah Richard of Charles Cove.

In 1881 Edward is living with his parents Michel and Ann in Crow Harbour, Guysborough Co., District 8-B, page 17. Note that here Ann is listed as born in Newfoundland.

Ann’s death certificate is also online on the NS Vital Stat site and confirms that she was born in Newfoundland. This is an older style death certificate and doesn’t give as much information as the newer ones.

The 1891 Canada Census asks for the birthplace of the persons parents and Michael Fogarty reports both his father as being born in Ireland and his mother in Newfoundland. Ann states both her parents were born in Ireland.
