hiya again carolyn! our people are one and the same!
i'm not yet definite on the boat trip tho...my records show that john was born 05july1830 in new york city. i do believe that his father james fohey and mother ?catherine? did arrive here from ireland via ship...like i said, whether john was born here in the usa or in ireland i am not 100% sure of yet. so far i have not found more on the parents james and catherine?
john married (1) margaret n murphy in 1858 (possibly in Wisconsin) and they did settle in shelby county, missouri. they had at least 8 children;
--catherine (kate) born 04june1860 in bethel, mo
as far as i know she never married and was invalid for 10 years prior to her death 15sept1938 in shelbina, mo
--elizabeth (lizzie) was born 03jan1861 or in bethel, mo. she married john david hines 11nov1880 in bethel, mo and had possibly 4 children. lizzie died 01july1952 in shelbina, mo and john died 07dec1927
--margaret e was born 10feb1862 in bethel, mo. she married stephen porter hamilton 03dec1884 in shelbyville, mo. they had 2 children and raised 2 of their grandchildren also. margaret died aug1934 in shelbina, mo and stephen died 11mar1932
--jane (janie) was born 20june1866 in bethel, mo. she married samuel r vanskike 05nov1890 in shelby county, mo and they had 5 children together as well as 2 from samuel's previous marriage. i do show records of the vanskike family in stillwater oklahoma in the 1900 census and one of their sons, william being born there in 1901. janie died 17july1948 in shelby county, mo and is buried there in shiloh cemetary. samuel died 05sept1936 and is also buried at shiloh cem.
--john david was born 10june1968 in bethel, mo. he married sallie exline browning on 24july1892 in shelby county, mo and they had 9 children. john died 09jan1947 in shelbina, mo and sallie died 09june1941 in shelby county,mo
--nancy was born in 1871 in shelby county, mo and married james frank demoss on 16march1890 in shelby county, mo. i have no records yet of children for this couple or for deaths either.
--james franklin (this is my g-grandfather!) was born 01dec1873 in bethel, mo. he married mary elizabeth daniel 04april1895(6)? in marion county, mo. they had 7 children. james frank died in 1936 at hunnewell, mo and g-grandma stayed there on the home place until her death in 26dec1973. both are buried in hunnewell, mo.
--thomas jefferson was born 02dec1875 in shelby county, mo and married myrtle geda christman on 02july1900 in bethel, mo. they had 2 children. thomas died in 1957 at bethel, mo and myrtle died 17march1949 in hannibal, mo.
---now back to john...wife margaret murphy died in 1896 and john married again to lavenia ann kelso on 12april1900, a son owen weldon was born later that year on 17dec1900 and died 29nov1918...owen's obit states that he had 14 half-siblings. i do know that lavenia was married once before john fohey and again after his death.
this is a portion of what i have on this line of the family, i have lots more! some photos too although not as many have surfaced as i would like.
where are you located at? i'm in warsaw, illinois.
thanks, barb
