Hi,

Thanks for the information. Dr. Miles W. Folkes was my
GG grandfather. It seems he was born in Warren County
(Vicksburg) Mississippi. In the 1850 census, he appears
in Warren County as a student at the age of 20.

He served in the confederate army as a physician and
druggist in Louisiana. He appears in the 1870 census
as a physician in Calhoun County Mississippi. His
son, James Duncan Folkes was living him in 1870. Sometime
after 1870, Miles W. and James D. moved to Upshur county
Texas. In the 1880 census, Miles W. is listed as grocer.

Miles W. Folkes appears to be related to the descendants
of William Folkes who immigrated from England to North
Carolina in the late 1700s. William Folkes had several
sons who moved to Mississippi around Warren county.
There are a few Miles Folkes in various records so it
seems to have been a common family name.

I have not been able to find Dr. Miles W. Folkes' father
so I don't have the definitive connection to the William
Folkes family. If anyone has any clues, please let me
know.

Thanks,
Ron Folkes
