My 7x Gt Grandfather was Martin Folkes of Hillington, Attorney General to Queen Catherine, widow of Charles II

It was his grandson, Sir Martin Browne Ffolkes (1749-1821) the first baronet, who added the extra "f"

Sir Martin Folkes (son of the former and uncle to the latter) was a noted antiquary, Deputy Grand-Master of Freemasons and President of the Royal Society.
