Hi,
We might be distantly related. My ancestors came from Catalonia also. Specifically from a small town north of Barcelona Called Lloret de Mar. Font is a very common name in the area. In Lloret de Mar the Fonts were among other things shipbuilders and traders. Our branch of the family left Spain in approximately 1800-1807.
We think our ancestors were the youngest two of several brothers who stood to inherit the least of the family business and so decided to try their luck in the Carribean. We believe they originally intended to go to Venezuela but arrived approximately when the Bolivar revolution was starting and decided to leave. They eventually settled in Puerto Rico and Cuba. I have also heard we may have relatives in New Orleans.
I would be interested in comparing notes.
Tom
