Hi Patrick:
I hope I can be of some help. As you may already have learned, the oldest male most times got the homestead. The others made it on their own. Since 1850, most emigrated and a great deal came to the US.
My gandda was Patrick Forde and lived in Ballina. He had the homestead. I say Ballina as it is the address. However, the bureen is Knockroe which is a nickname(Irish for 'Red Hill') for the partial area officially know as Rathreedane, Bonniconlon. It's just east of Ballina. The Forde's have been there since at least 1830 and I have all the info.
Patrick's brother, Michael, settled in Glenree, and his brother, John settled in Mountaif(spelling?). He had another brother who went to Liverpool. Many are still there and know the history.
Patrick's Dad was John and he is on the Griffith's Census of 1830.
My dad passed in 1980. He was born August 4, 1906 and came here in 1922. He was Michael John. My Uncle Tom got the homestead and his wife still has it. He passed.
I'll be there in May 2001 and I'd be happy to help. We have lists of all the names on gravestones as well as parishs.
Liam
