If you are related to the same Latour ancestors as myself, you are correct. The "souche" of the family was Pierre Latour.
Over the years from 1680 to about 1705 the name changed from Pierre Latour to Pierre Latour dit Laforge.ALL the variations after that were topsy turvy. For example, Pierre Latour's son Antoine had three sons I have traced, Francois, Pierre-Simon and Antoine. On their records of birth they were listed as:
Francois Latour dit Laforge
Antoine Latour Forgette
Pierre Simon Latour dit Forget.
As you can see this makes it very difficult to "accurately" trace the evolution of ther family surname.
There are several other variations such as Forgit, Foreshaw, Forgie.
Be glad to give you more if you have a common ancestor I can start from in Quebec Canada prior to 1860.
