Greeting from NCI am searching the name Forker and I know from trips to Scotland that the name was Farquhar.I know of no Norway connection .In Ireland the name exist and for many years the Irish Forker's thought they were German but the dates of 1588do not work out with today's German Forker's who seraching and have decided that they probably are Scottish from FARQUHAR.That spelling is used in PA/NJ before 1750 but all records seem to also use the spelling FARQUHAR with each namethat also uses FORKER.In Scotland today on the Atlantic side south of Skye there is a Farquhar's POINT on the map.If you go there and speak with the local person they pronounce the spelling of the POINT FORKER.We did that last Fall. Beautiful coast line/
The Forker's in Glasgow in general came to Scotland from Ireland about 1960 from Donegal and that same family is there today and some have moved to Edinburgh.I have written to the persons in England uusing this spelling but none ofthem ever returned a letter with an answer about the origin of the spelling. It is unusual and very few people in the world have this name.About 1000 in USA and 300 in Germany (all going to the same person in the same villiage near Dresden).I hope I have given you some new ideas in which to search your grandfather,s name.
