George Franklin Forney was the son of Leander Edmund (L.E.) Forney and Elizabeth "Bessie" (Robinson) Forney of Cherokee, Ok., and formerly of Sharon, Kansas. After his mother died when he was only 14 days old, George F. Forney was taken to Sharon, Kansas, and reared for the first six years of his life by his maternal grandparents, Reverend George & Dorothy (Green) Robinson. The following web page about Rev. Robinson includes a photograph (courtesy of his gg grand-daughter, LeAnne (Forney) Brubaker) of Rev. Robinson and his grandson George Franklin Forney. It also includes a photo of Gilbert Forney, George F. Forney's older brother, in his WWI army uniform, as well as facsimile copies of two letters by Rev. Robinson. One letter to his son in England is about the death of Rev. Robinson's daughter, Annie, and mentions a visit to L.E. and "Bessie" (Robinson) Forney in Oklahoma. The second letter is to his grandson, Gilbert Forney, just before he left the USA to go overseas in WWI.
