Brig. General (CSA) William Henry Forney (9 Nov 1823-16 Jan 1894) was undoubtedly the individual for whom the camp was named. He was a lawyer, a Democrat, and a respected political figure. Member of Alabama's state legislature; U.S. Representative from Alabama, 1875-93 (at-large 1875-77, 7th District 1877-93). He was the 3rd of 5 sons, all of whom served in the military for the State of Alabama during the War.
