The spelling is found both ways in my family. Furney is more common in earlier times (late 1700 to mid 1800's), with Forney the more common spelling of today. Many family members switched over to Forney as they moved and got married. I always look for at least these two spellings in all my research. Looking at geographic location and first names has helped me identify relationships, regardless of last name spelling. Be interested in any Ireland and/or England ties to Johann Adam Forney/Furney.
