Hi John,

I am wondering if we may be related, but do not know at this point whether or not if we are.

My my great, great grandfather's name was John Forson. He was a stone mason who lived in Garrison, New York with his family. His wife, Mary Ornkey Ellis Smeaton (also mispelled "Smeaton"), as her name implies was from the Orkney Islands, and her parents were married in Edinburg. We have not been able to determine where John Forson's birthplace was or where he met Mary Smeaton as of yet, but his tombstone reads he was born in 1819. We were told our family was originally from Scotland, but we aren't sure now whether family said this because of Mary Ellis Smeaton being from Scotland or whether Mary Ellis Smeaton and John Forson are both from Scotland.

Although we do not know anything about John Forson before he came to Garrison, New York, USA positively as of now, in our research we found a Thomas Forson that was also involved in cutting stone and marble in a business which he co-owned in Buffalo, New York, USA, about the late 1860's.

Do you know anything about your ancestors, and if so, do you have a John Forson in your line born about 1819,or any family that may have been stone masons around that time, or "family rumors" of family leaving for the USA around that time?

In any event, it is certainly nice to learn more about our "greater" Forson family in Scotland.

Looking forward to hearing from you,
