Fortner/Faulkner children listed with John Hammond(s)

I need help researching John Hammond, b.1795, married to Mary and found in the 1850 Lawrence Co., KY census.

Listed with John and Mary in the 1850 census are:
Emily Hammons age 16
Thomas Faulkner age 19(though this may read 15)
Lucinda Faulkner age 14
William Faulkner age 10

All the children were listed as born in Mississippi.

Are these John's & Mary's children? Mary's children with a 1st husband, if she even had one? Relatives of John's and/or Mary's? Grandchildren?

In 1860, John & Mary are living next door to Emily and her husband, William Watts, in the 1860 Wayne Co., VA(now WV) census.
In 1870, John & Mary are found in the household of William Fortner(Faulkner) and his wife Mary.
In 1880, I could only find Mary, who is listed with John Watts(son of William Watts and Emily Fortner/Faulkner/Hammond) and his wife, Margaret. Mary is listed as grandmother.

Any information regarding the connection between John & Mary Hammond(s) and that of the Faulkner/Fortner children would be appreciated.

Thank you.
