Timothy J (James) Fortner -Old Pendleton District- SC-1810 Census

I have been researching Timothy Fortner (circa 1785-1850+) who died sometime after the Pickens County, SC 1850 Census. He is listed in that census as 65 yrs of age and born in NC. I have been unable to find him prior to the 1810 Old Pendleton District (SC)census.

I have lots of information on his descendents but cannot trace him back to NC prior to the 1810 Old Pendleton District, SC census.

I have just learned that in one document found he is listed as Timothy J. Fortner (James is a common name in his descendents) so I believe he may be Timothy James Fortner. He had a son James Timothy Fortner.

He is listed in the 1810 Old Pendleton District census as Timothy Fortiner. Nearby is Nancy Fortener. Nancy owned land in Buncombe County, NC then moved to the Old Pendleton District. Is there a connection between the two??

Does anyone have any possible info on this Timothy James(J)Fortner??

Thanks,
Don Fortner
