Nancy Fortner/Faulkner is the mother of Jabel Fortner/Faulner (my G-G-Great grandfather) who later moved to Sumter Co., AL (after spending time in GA on the way, I believe). There is proof of this at the time that Nancy remarries in the Anderson County, SC Deed Book P-Page 492 as follows:
Jan 12, 1820. Nancy FORTNER of Pendleton District conveys to Jabel FORKNER for love and natural good will I have borne and still bear unto said Jabel FORKNER all that tract of land containing 194 acres on Conaress Creek Waters of Keowee River. Witnessed Charles Whitten, James Thompson. Signed Nancy X FORKNER. January 18, 1821 whereas Nancy FORKNER shorly before her intermarriage with me did with my knowledge and consent convey unto her son Jabel FORKNER a tract of land and I being desirous of confirming her transfer, I William CROSBY in consideration of benevolent disposition of Mrs. FORKNER and the sume of one dollar release Jabal FORKNER. WItnessed Mary X WHITTEN, A. WHITTEN..Signed William CROSBY.
None of us researching Nancy have come across anything suggesting who Jabel's father was. However, in the 1880 Sumter Co., AL census, Jabel lists his father's birthplace as Scotland and his mother's as SC.
If you ever come across anything on this family, I would love to hear about it.
