Ezekiel Fortner/Folkner
I am looking for information on the ancestors of Ezekiel Fortner/Folkner, who according to his Rev. War pension record was told by his mother that he was born oct. 10, 1760 in Cumberland County, North Carolina. This was stated in a court interview that took place in Hardin County, Tn. for the purpose of making application for pension. He was ask to state where he enlisted and name other places he had lived. He stated that he enlisted in the Rev. War in Anson County, N.C. and moved from there to Rutherford County, N.C.. He then stated that he had also lived in Burke and Lincoln Counties in same state. He stated that he had afterwards lived in Cocke, Blount, Knox, Overton, Marion, Jefferson and Wayne Counties in Tennessee, with his present residence being Hardin County, Tennessee. Record says that his name was Ezekiel Folkner or Fortner. (both spellings appear) He was listed in the 1840 census of Hardin County, Tn. as Ezekiel Fortner age 74. I believe he is the father of John Fortner/Folkner, also listed in the 1840 census of Hardin County, Tn. as John "Fortner". but haven't been able to proove it. In 1850 John is listed as John "Folkner". According to census, John was born abt 1795/96 in North Carolina. Pension record also stated that Ezekial had a brother named William Forkner who was his Leut. and had long been deceased. Would Appreciate any infomation anyone can offer. Linda
