I am a descendant of Samuel Elijah Fortson (b Lauderdale Co. Ms. about April 1865. His first wife (m 2/16/1888) was Priscilla Shelby and 2nd Mary Alice Carpenter (m 11/10/1889). Apparently after the death of his father, Joseph G Fortson in Mississippi, the family moved to Brown County, Texas. There were 12 children of Samuel. Samuel and Mary Alice are buried in near Brownwood, Texas.
