Scott,
I am descended from Lt Thomas Fortson 1742-1824 and the Elbert Co, Ga Fortsons. My grandmother on my father's side was Fannie Merenthia Tyner Gilmer, born ca 1891 Royston, Ga, died 1945 Greenwood SC, where she had many Tyner/Fortson relatives living at the time. She was the daughter of William L. Tyner and Molly Fortson. Molly Fortson was the daughter of Francis Asbury Fortson, b 23 Jan 1846 in Elbert Co., Ga; died 20 July 1920 at Old Soldier's Home, Atlanta, Ga, and Lucy A. Johnson. They were married Aug 31, 1863 in Madison Co., Ga. Both are buried at Mills Shoals Baptist cemetery (near Royston, Ga).William L. Tyner is buried in the Edgewood Cemetery, Greenwood, SC. He was born in 1864, died in 1941.

My grandmother, Fannie Merenthia Tyner Gilmer had a brother named Comers (?) Tyner, who reportedly lived in the Greenwood, SC area.

Any of this sound familiar?

Jim Gilmer
Elba, Al
