I, too, am researching this Fortson line for a friend. I found tons and tons of information on ancestry.com. On Thursday I am going to the Elbert Co GA and the Madison Co GA courthouses. Today I tried to find Richard Easton Fortson in the GA 1850 census index, no luck, scrolled the entire microfilm, no luck. I wonder if he went to another state for a period of time and came back to GA or just got missed by the census. I found him in 1860 married to Jane (Lucy Jane Campbell.
Thomas Fortson, Jr. was a Rev Sol, b in Orange Co VA, came to Wilkes Co GA, drew land. Elbert Co was cut off Wilkes and Madison was cut off Elbert. The family stayed put.
My friend comes down through Benjamin H. Fortson, Thomas Fortson, III, Richard Easton Fortson, Mary Elmira Elizabeth Fortson married to William W. Beard , then their son Sam Easton Beard, Charles Beard, and the rest I don't remember, they are more recent generations and my papers are in another room. I am interested in documentation for births, deaths, marriages, dates and places.
