Hello Alisson or any of the Fortuna family, specially from the Dominican Republic.
My great uncle and historian Cesar Cano' Fortuna did a study about were the Fortuna' s came from. So far and as far i can remember, the first "Fortuna" of what today istheDominican Republic actually settle in in the mid 1700's in the west part of the Island of Santo Domingoin what is today the Republic of Haiti.
There he established himself as a plantation owner and owner many slaves. After the slave revolution in 1799/1800 ( the west side of the island becames the new Republic of Haiti, the first free black nation) and many slaves move to better lands in the south central area of the island, starting new towns or integrating themselfs to others ( El Cercado, Las Matas de Farfan, San Juan de la Maguana) other groups move further north of the island (San Francisco de Macorix). It is believe that this newly free slaves or "criollos" ( free man but without rights) were direct descendent of that italian Fortuna with his female slaves. The central and west side of the island was a spanish colony at that time, today is the Dominican Republic.
From my part, we go back 5 direct line generations from that area.
This are the names in case will help some of you:
Agustin Fortuna ( my great- great grand father)
Domingo Fortuna ( grandfather)
Manuel Agustin Fortuna Gonzalez ( father)
Edwin A. Fortuna Torres ( ME - First of the Fortuna's to be born in the USA )
Albert Fortuna Melo (my son )
