Frederick Foster of Susquehanna County, PA -> Lake Co, IN
I am looking for information of Frederick Foster, born in Vermont, but lived in the Bridgewater area of Susquehanna County, PA in the mid-1800's.After lots of digging, I found that he is my gr-gr-gr-gr-grandfather.Does anyone have any information on his ancestry or any of his descendants?
He is listed in the 1830, 1840, and 1850 census. In the 1850 census, he is listed as 52 years of age, born in Vermont, and a farmer. He was married to Betsey (age 45, born in New York), and had at least ten children (maybe more).According to a book on the history of Lake County, IN, he died in Crown Point, IN in 1864.According to the 1850 census, his ten children at that time, all born in PA, were:
- George Foster (born 1824)
- Sophia Foster (born 1828)
- Adelia Foster (born 1829)
- Almon Foster (born 1831)
- Martin Foster (born 1833)
- Augustus Foster (born 1835)
- Mary Foster (born 1837)
- Elizabeth Foster (born 1839)
- William Foster (born 1841)
- Martha Foster (born 1843)
I only have information about three of these children, based on turn-of-the-century history/biography books on Lake County, IN and the area:
- Almon Foster married to S. R. Bloomfield on June 30, 1856 in Lake Co.
- John M. Foster (my gr-gr-gr-grandfather) born in 1833, and died February 1893.On November 8, 1860 he married to Helen R. Monahan (born 1841 in OH).He distinguished himself in the Confederate War as a captain of company G of the Indiana 12th Cavalry. He had at least six children:Louisa "Lou" Ada Foster (born January 1, 1863 - my gr-gr-grandmother), Lela A. Foster, Fred A. Foster, Nora Foster, Clay Foster and Bernard Foster.
- Elizabeth B. Foster (born August 29, 1839 in Susquehanna, PA) married on September 9, 1867 in Lake Co to John B. Pearce of Eagle Creek, IN (son of Michael Pearce of Hamilton, OH).They had at least five children:Florence Foster, Jay Michael Foster, Kitty Foster, Fred Foster, and Anne A. Foster
If anyone has any information on Frederick Foster (including any information on any of his numerous descendants), or any information on his ancestry, I would appreciate it.I assume most of the family moved from Susquehanna to Lake Co, IN in the early 1850's, so most descendants would be found in the Indiana area. Please email me at [email protected]
