You would be absolutely correct to assume that I am North American! And your theory sounds pretty correct to me. I'm actually from the South US where there are absolutely no other Fothergills except for my immediate family. Except for one family. This couple moved down to Texas when I was in the 5th grade and the wife turned out to be my teacher. It was really confusing when my mother got the letter in the mail saying that Mrs. Fothergill would be my teacher. :)
