According to the Donation Land Claim's, John Fothergill
gave the following information.

John FOTHERGILL,heirs of,Lane Co.,Oregon; b.1818 County
Monmouthshire,England; Arrived Oregon 9-27-1853;secured
his land claim 10-20-1853 to 9-16-1855 day of his death. H emigrated to USA,landing at port of New York about Feb.1852. Filed intention to become citizen at Circuit Court,Winnebago Co.,Wisconsin / Iowa (both given).

4-8-1859 Mary FOTHERGILL,widow; Pheobe FOTHERGILL,
spinster; Elizabeth Catherine FOTHERGILL,spinster;
George FOTHERGILL all of Pontypool / Pooutypool,County
of Monmouthshire,England and Stephen VERNON of Newport,
County of Monmouthshire "Banker" and Mary,his wife formerly Mary FOTHERGILL and James EVANS of Chesston /
Chesstow,County of Monmouth, "Attorney-at-law" and "Fanny"/ Frances,his wife,formerly Fanny FOTHERGILL the mother,brothers and sisters of John FOTHERGILL late of Lane County,Oregon,deceased. "In consideration of the natural love and affection we have and bear for and toward John POWELL of Lane Co.,Oregon aforesaid our relative do hereby give and convey unto said John POWELL....(legal land description)...claim." Also included affidavit of James N.KNAPP,consular Agent of the USA for Newport,Distict of Bristol,England.
Aff. also signed by:Thomas WARNER, Richard W.LEWIS, Hanniah LEWIS,John GOLDEN,Joseph DRINKWATER,Wm.DRINKWATER.
