Dear Brian,
I have no "proof" which of those hypotheses on the parentage of Isabel Fathergil who maried James Thistlethwaite is correct. My own source is Bernard Thistlethwaite's book (I have my grandparent's copy) and he believed that Edmond was Isabel's brother and the father Richard and Rachel. That fits in with a Richard Fothergill b 17 Jun 1657 in Reading, Yorks, who married Rachel Holmes b 18 May 1687, d after 1733. That's my best hunch at the moment, having visited Aisgarth, Yorkshire, several times researching and checked records there and at Friends' House, London. Still no proof that they are the same people.
Happy to share, but that's about all I've got!
Carolyn Fix Blount
