If you think of the word bother - then that's how we say Fothergill (and it's gill not girl) here in New Zealand. Interestingly I work with someone who's Irish and she pronounces it Fathergill (I can always tell which kids have been taught by her by how they say my name.) One of my kids must come from somewhere interesting as he's the only one to say Fothergirl!
